I’ve been using the Apple iPad as a replacement for my macbook. Thus far, working on an iMac in the office and using an iPad when I’m on the go has been a productive combination.
Clients and friends have asked how I am using my iPad in my small business. Thus is born a 3-part series on using “iPad as Laptop Replacement in Small Business.”
Topics I’ll cover:
- ipad Tech Specs
- ipad outside the office
- ipad for presentations
Today’s topic: iPad tech specs – Q & A on selecting iPad for your small business
Q: How do I decide which size/capacity (GB) to get?
A: iPad comes in 16GB, 32GB or 64GB sizes. The “size” refers to the amount of space available to store songs, photos and videos. Which is the right size for you? If you want an ipad mainly for photos, emailing, web browsing and online video viewing, the 16GB will work for you. I chose the 32GB version because I store videos from my iphone, client presentations and high resolution photos on my iPad. Take a tour.
Q: What does an iPad cost?
A: iPad with Wi-Fi: 16GB $499; 32GB $599; 64GB $699. iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G: 16GB $629; 32GB $729; 64GB $829. The Wi-Fi version can be used with any Wi-Fi hotspot. The 3G version lets you connect to both Wi-Fi hotspots and 3G cellular networks (ATT and Verizon as of this writing) and is sold separately.
Q: Do you recommend the extended warranty?
A: iPad comes with complimentary telephone technical support within 90 days of purchase. In addition, iPad’s rechargeable battery, and included accessories are covered against defects for one year from the original purchase date by a limited hardware warranty. Purchasing the AppleCare Protection Plan extends your technical support and hardware coverage for two years from the original purchase date. You don’t have to buy Apple Care when you buy your iPad. After all, the first year is covered (see above). However, you can only buy the additional two years of AppleCare Protection within the first year that you own your iPad. Details.
Q: Do you still love your iPad as much as when you purchased it?
A: I love the ability to sync my iPad to my iMac using mobile me. I especially like that if I delete an email while on my iPad it gets deleted from my iMac and iPhone too. Other loves: iPad is lightweight, the touch screen makes it fun to use and everything looks so beautiful! One drawback, programs that I use on the desktop iMac don’t work on the iPad – but in most cases, there’s an ap for that!
