“The whole social networking phenomenon has millions of Americans sharing their photos, favorite songs and details about their class reunions on Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and dozens of similar sites. But there are a handful of personal details that you should never say if you don’t want criminals — cyber or otherwise — to rob you blind,” according to Beth Givens, executive director of the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse.

Great point…and one I’ve been sharing in my workshops, presentation, speaking events and work with clients since social media exploded onto the marketing scene.

When the subject of privacy first comes up people have a hard time seeing how posting their vacation photos while they are still on vacation might tip off unsavory characters. A little reflection reveals how that could be a bad idea.

Or how about broadcasting on twitter that you’re heading to a 4-hour opera performance? You might think twice when you recall that ANYONE can search tweets by location – oh my, are you getting the idea?
