I had my Twins 2016 Opening Day ticket in hand on the first day they were available to season ticket holders this winter. Months went by. Then, I scheduled a work presentation for April 11. Weeks went by before I realized that April 11 was Opening Day! It was too late to reschedule the meeting so I listed my tickets for sale on stubhub.
Undeterred, I created my own “Twins Opening Day” at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. The Minnesota team was playing an Opening Weekend series in KC so I headed south Saturday morning for that night’s game.
Top 3 things to experience at the Kansas City ballpark:
- Early Bird Experience: Pay $12 to gain early entry to Royal’s batting practice. I enjoyed touring the stadium and chatting with the workers before the crowds showed up.
- Centerfield Standing Room: The area is first-come first stand and provides a close-up view of the field and bullpen.
- Diamond Club: I made friends with other ticket holders who invited me to join them in the Diamond Club. The floor-to-ceiling retractable windows were closed to keep out the April chill and provided a first-class baseball themed experience.
