After plowing through the MinneBar 2011 session schedule I noticed something I’d missed when I slid into a booth at Sandy’s Place, Best Buy headquarters.
A cheery table tent wondered: “How are you feeling today?” and instructed me to “Scan the code and let us know (anonymously) and see how you compare to other Best Buy team members.”
Because I was in geek heaven anticipating the day’s activities centered on Minnesota tech and start-up communities I scanned the “thumbs up” mobile code (a.k.a QR code). I was transported to a page on my iPhone congratulating me for having a thumbs-up kind of day and informed that 65.2% of respondents were also having a great day.
What a clever way to educate employees about the power of mobile codes! The experience was reinforced with a bit of text, “Mobile codes can make it easy for customers to give in-store feedback,” and a link to a Best Buy internal site with details about this and other mobile code projects.
But what about the other 34.8% who weren’t feeling groovy? Scanning the thumbs-down QR code took you to a page that said “Sorry to hear that you’re having a down day” and “Tap Here for a Bit of Cheer.” Gotta say, it was doggone funny picture of a Pug wearing Pug slippers!
MinneBar is a free and decentralized (un) conference aimed at getting those in Minnesota’s tech and design communities together to discuss topics that interest them.
