Facebook business pages will change – again – beginning March 30, 2012. If you do nothing, your page will automatically get the new design. This will change the look of any graphics that you (or your favorite local Facebook / social media strategist) has customized such as your profile image, profile picture or landing tab.
Three things you need to know:
Cover photo: Here is an example of the new Facebook cover photo. It is an improvement in that it replaces the strip of photos across the top. It can be up to 850 pixels x 315 pixels. However, the image may not include a call to action – your contact info, website or request visitors LIKE your page. Cover photo details.- Profile photo: The size has been changed to 180 pixels x 180 pixels. Your profile photo shows up as a small icon next to posts in your news feed. For branding purposes I recommend using your company logo.
- Timelines replace tabs:The timeline feature that Facebook rolled out previously on personal pages is replacing the landing page a.k.a. “tab” on your business page. Your business posts, pictures and videos and pages will appear in your timeline. Adding your company’s milestones – first order shipped, first international location, notable leadership transitions – will make your timeline a popular stop for visitors. Tabs to ‘Timeline” requires more engaging content.
