Riding my bike to Metropolitan Stadium was one of my favorite summer adventures. The sights, sounds, and smells of baseball have fascinated me ever since. The sight of the scoreboard framed by an impossibly blue summer sky. The sound of Wally the Beer Man hawking “Grain Belt – cold beer here!” The smell of smoldering cigars wafting from the box seats behind the first baseline.
I loved to play baseball, too. Many a summer day was spent playing pick-up games with the neighbor kids. Looking back, I guess I was the only girl who played regularly – and always one of the first chosen when picking teams!
Though I always dreamed of being the first woman to play in the major leagues, I knew it wasn’t likely to happen. Softball proved a suitable substitute.

These days, I visit MLB and MiLB ballparks to take in – and share – my love of the game.
